Fees
X1ID is designed to be simple: you pay once and own your handle forever. On a standard registration there are no renewals, no subscriptions, and no expiry dates. (An optional lease-to-own path exists for spreading the cost — see the table at the bottom.) Here's the full picture.
One-time registration
Registering a handle is a single, one-time payment in XNT (X1's native token). After that, the handle is yours to keep — you never pay again to hold it.
Because there's no renewal, your handle can't lapse and can't be snatched by someone else because you missed a payment. That permanence is the whole point of a name people send money to.
Priced by length
Shorter names cost more. Here's the launch price at every length. A registration is one payment that already includes a tradeable capability pNFT — minted to your wallet in the same transaction, at no extra cost. There is no separate mint fee.

† Single characters aren't directly registerable. All 26 one-character handles are held by the treasury (registered to it at genesis) and reach an owner only through the marketplace — never by direct registration, so they have no length-tier registration price.
These are current launch prices — an introductory discount, about half the full price. Registration is a one-time cost, and that cost rises over time: roughly +12.5 points of the full price each quarter, reaching the full tier price about a year after launch. Because you pay once and own the name forever, claiming earlier locks in a lower price — a name registered today never costs more later.
These prices are set on-chain and read live — the exact figure is always shown in the app before you confirm, so you never pay anything you haven't seen. Reserved words and the premium names held by the treasury reach owners through the marketplace rather than direct registration (see below); any short name that wasn't reserved registers directly, at its (high) tier price above.
Premium & reserved names
Some names aren't available for ordinary registration — brands, tickers, well-known words, and a curated set of short names were reserved or set aside for the treasury at launch. These reach new owners through the marketplace (a listing or an auction) rather than by direct registration. Short names that weren't reserved register directly like any other name — just at the higher price of their tier. If a premium name is what you want, look for it on app.x1id.io/marketplace.
The sale royalty
Because every standard registration now includes a tradeable pNFT, a handle you sell is a tokenized sale — and a tokenized sale carries a 2.5% on-chain royalty, not a separate marketplace fee (the royalty replaces it). A plain name-only sale (a handle that was never tokenized) instead pays the flat 2% marketplace fee. Either way, if you're just registering and holding your own handle, nothing applies — it only ever touches a sale.
The tradeable pNFT, included by default
A registration already includes a tradeable capability pNFT — minted to your wallet in the same transaction as the registration, at no extra cost. You don't mint anything separately, and there is no separate mint fee. The pNFT is what lets you trade your handle on standard NFT marketplaces if you ever choose to. (Name-only paths like lease-to-own tokenize when the handle becomes permanent — still at no extra cost.) See the FAQ for what tokenizing does.
The X1 network fee. Separate from the price above, a tokenized registration pays the ordinary X1 transaction fee for the compute it uses — about 0.0045 XNT (it's two quick transactions, ~0.0003 + ~0.0042); claiming a gift is a single ~0.0042 XNT transaction. X1 charges the transaction's requested compute-unit limit × 10 lamports per compute unit. It goes to the network, not to X1ID, and it's the same kind of gas any on-chain action pays.
